Easy Cheese Grater Cleaning tip

Next time you are ready to grate cheese, first spray the grater with vegetable oil and the cheese will not stick to it as readily as if not sprayed. Easy clean up with a pre-treatment of oil. The same is true of measuring cups when measuring peanut butter and honey or sticky foods.

Soda bottle re-use

Use a two liter soda bottle for funneling birdseed into the feeder or trasferring rice into a canister. Just use a scissors or a utility knife to cut a soda bottle in half, then use the top half as an instant funnel.

Honey Yogurt Fruit Dressing-fruit dip ideas

Honey Yogurt Fruit Salad Dressing

Plain Yogurt (non-fat works just as well as full fat)
Honey
Vanilla Extract

Start with the yogurt and add honey and vanilla until it has reached the taste that you prefer. The honey sweetens the “sour” of yogurt and the vanilla gives it flavor. Quantities of the above items depend on how much dressing you need and the honey and vanilla depend on your particular taste preferences.

Use this over fresh fruit salad. This is healthy, but do not feed to children under age 2 due to the honey being a “raw” product and might contain bacteria from the bees and its production in nature.

Another idea for fresh fruit dip is to use pineapple yogurt or other fruit yogurts that would compliment your fresh fruit and don't add anything to it. Tasty and refreshing.

Complimentary soaps – soap slivers

Use the small complimentary soaps that are put out by motels and hotels, also the ends of your soap bars that are probably slivers in design as sachets in your linen cupboard or in your clothing drawers to give them a pleasant scent.

The small soaps are also great to rub on the rails of drawers or edges of doorways that stick. It will make them slide and open and closed easily.

Moist Cake Tricks

Brush unfrosted cakes between layers and /or the outside with simple syrup or rum, Kirsch wasser, or any liquor of your choice before frosting or putting in the freezer for later use. This trick will keep them moist and add flavor (unless your are using simple syrup).

Simple syrup:
1part water to 2 parts (1 cup water to 2 cups sugar or quantities as needed) granulated sugar. Heat to a boil and simmer and stir until sugar is dissolved. Cool before applying to cake.

Rice

I bought a wild rice blend from the bulk foods section at Copps and twice I've cooked it and it was either still very raw or it all stuck together. I used 2 cups to one cup of rice and it all cooked away and the rice was still hard. I heard you were not supposed to stir rice as it gets sticky and I didn't but that didn't work either. What am I doing wrong?
