Bugs on the windshield of your vehicle

Traveling can be a messy experience if it is bug season or if your are driving through rural areas.  I keep a sponge-scrubbie in the trunk and a spray bottle with windshield washer fluid and an old rag or paper toweling.  When the bug mess needs to be removed from your windshield, don't use the washer equipment at a service/gas station.  The epuipment and fluid can be a worse problem than what you started with.  The fluid may be oily and the equipment can be worn, allowing scratching to occur on your windows.

Using your spray bottle with your washer fluid and a scrubbie you can get cleaner windows and will not need to wait to find a station (and hope they are not out of fluid or equipment when you arrive) and you can clean your windows any time it is necessary, by pulling off onto the shoulder of the road or similar area without using an off and on ramp, wasting valuable travel time.  BE CAREFUL OF TRAFFIC PASSING YOU WHILE YOU DO THE WINDOWS.

Old socks protect floors

Save old socks or socks without partners to use next time you want to move heavy furniture.  Slip over the bottom of the furniture leggs and it will move more easily and will save scratching and marking hard floors.

Black Heel Marks

If you have a problem with black heel marks on hardwood floors, apply a little toothpaste to an old toothbrush and add a little elbow grease.  Then wipe with a damp cloth.  The heel marks will be gone and your floors will be shiny.

Perfume samples

Take a cotton ball in a small medicine bottle along when you go shopping.  When you find a sampler perfume you like, spray onto a cotton, apply where you prefer if you want to use it at that time, or put the cotton ball into the medicine bottle and use later and when done using it, place in your linen closet, clothing closet, dresser drawer or car for a sachet or car scent.

Cleaning Artificial Flowers

Dusting frequently with a hair dryer set on low prevents buildup that can become hard to remove.  To clean safely (and this means without using water), pour some salt into a plastic bag, put the flower heads down into the bag, and shake.  Place a nylon stocking over a vacuum nozzle and gently remove the salt, which will have absorbed the dirt from the flowers.

Nail Polish Uses

——————————————————————————–
1.  Secure a screw.  Tighten loose screws – put clear nail polish on the screw threads and put it into the cabinet, pot handle, etc. and let dry before using again.
2.  Stop tarnish:  Coat with clear polish-costum jewelry
3.  Seal an envelope – Use polish on the underside of the flap
4.  Mend a screen – Avoid a small (no larger than 1/3″ in diameter) hole from getting bigger by brushing a little clear nail polish over the spot.
5.  Smooth a hanger – brush clear nail polish onto the rough edges of wooden or plastic hangers to avoid snags

Identy Theft – Opt Out – Credit Bureaus – driver's liscence departments

To keep credit bureaus from selling your information to credit card companies, call 888-567-8688 and tell them to stop selling your information to insurance companies and insurance firms.  It can take up to 3 months to stop getting annoying preapproved mail, but it works.  I have done it and it really makes a difference.

Contact the driver's liscence department and ask for the form to opt our from them selling your information too.  There is no cost to do the above.  I have done this too and my junk mail is very minimal.

Pay on line and stop the possibilty of your statements being stolen from your mailbox and have your statements sent electronically instead of via hard mail.

Erase Car Rust Spots (for a steal!)

When rust marks mar the look of your car, put aluminum foil to work instead of pricey chrome cleaner.  Just crumple a one-foot-long piece into a ball, then dip it into a bowl of cola and use to scrub the affected chrome, re-dipping as needed.  The phosphoric acid in the soda dissolves rust's iron oxide particles, while the foil works like sandpaper to buff off grime, insuring rust disapears and your car's exterior glistens like new.

Repair or replace an appliance

If an appliance is younger than half its life expectancy and cost to repair is less than half the new price, it is cheaper to repair than to replace.
