Garnish Trick

Before placing washed greens or cut veggies or fruit pieces on your serving trays/plates, spray them with cooking/vegetable oil. This will give them a very fresh appearance, enhance the color and preserve their freshness for many hours. Since the oil is etible, the garnish is safe to eat and be in contact with your foods.

Tip: Spray over the sink to save any mess on your tray/plate. You can also apply oil to your hands/plastic gloves and then rub them over your garnish items if you prefer to not use aerosol products.

Stuck in snow or ice with our vehicle? – "green" reuse pet food jugs

Keep 2 old bath mats or fabric/plastic car mats in your trunk/vehicle storage area. If you get stuck, you can place them so they slip under the wheels (as the wheels start to spin) and give the tires some traction to help you get on your way.

Kitty litter or a bag of lime (from a farm supply store) or sand kept in a plastic large mouth jug (like pet food comes in-also a good way to reuse these containers)are all good items to choose from to have in your vehicle to help you get moving again. The plastic jug will save you from spilled product in your trunk/vehicle as can happen with a bag or bucket. It will also be kept dry and is easy to apply, by pouring it by the tires. With the large lid, it is easy to open with gloves or mittens or cold hands.

Easy -cost effective table pad-table cloth

To save noise from table service (knives, forks, etc.) on your guest tables, place a flat style white bed sheet under your table cloth (best if you can fold it in half lengthwise or as it fits best) to be a substitute for a table pad. This saves you money, since it is lilely already in your linen closet, space since it won't need to be stored anywhere, ironing or special laundry costs, since it is just a “bed” sheet not a fancy table cloth that could be stained if things get spilled on it or need to be sent to the dry cleaners. This also helps protect your table top, even under your table cloth. This will provide a “quality” base for your table settings. If you do not have a table cloth, a bed sheet can become a table cloth, if it is a white one or a color that coordinates with your china or surroundings. If you do not have a sheet to fit your table, they can often be purchased inexpensively at a resale shop and still be in new or very good condition.
